We have a love-hate relationship with the old Chemex coffee maker. We love that it is made of glass so it’s easy to clean. We don’t love that the part you grab is made of wood and leather because it makes us feel like we are late for a Crosby Stills and Nash concert (admittedly, the glass rod handle model is a smart upgrade). We love that it is a filter/pour-over method, but the filters are expensive and somewhat wasteful — half of the filter is redundant due to the way it is folded. Plus the time it takes to prepare a pot of coffee is sometimes twice the time of other pour-over methods. We love that it makes a great-tasting cup of coffee (and, surely, this should be our only concern, right?), but don’t love the fact that keeping that coffee hot for very long is nearly impossible. I almost considered asking a friend to knit a sweater for my Chemex. (Hey, maybe that’s an idea for a little side business…? Chemex Snugglies?)
